Rigby Announces Funding for Major Overhaul of Johnstown Sewer System
10/21/2021
HARRISBURG – The Greater Johnstown Water Authority is the recipient of a more than $7 million loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to address sanitary sewer overflows, according to Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown).

During wet weather, the current system becomes inundated, resulting in untreated sewage being discharged into tributaries of the Stony Creek and Little Conemaugh River. The project involves not only replacement of the existing sewer collection lines but installation of more than 6,400 feet of new lines and storm sewers to augment the current infrastructure.

“I am grateful PENNVEST recognized the need for this grant and approved the loan for the authority,” said Rigby. “This type of financial assistance goes a long way in helping to improve the quality of life where we live.”

Founded in 1988, PENNVEST provides low-interest loans for design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm water and wastewater projects.
