Rigby to Host Safe Driving Course for Senior Citizens

April 24, 2026

HARRISBURG - State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) is partnering with Seniors for Safe Driving to offer two Mature Driver Improvement courses in the coming months.

“These events are very well attended and usually generate a waiting list, which is why we’ve already scheduled a second class,” said Rigby. “They are taught solely in a classroom setting and provide a good test of the rules of the road for anyone who may have lost confidence behind the wheel.”

The courses Rigby is co-hosting are scheduled as follows:

   • Wednesday, May 13, Windber Recreation Park and Pool, 60 Rec Road, Windber (noon to 4 p.m.).

   • Wednesday, Aug. 12, Richland Township Fire Department’s Solomon Run fire hall, 176 Mt Airy Drive, Johnstown (5-9 p.m.).

The PennDOT-approved course is designed for seniors aged 55 and older at a cost of $17. Completing the course will earn participants a minimum 5% discount on auto insurance premiums over a three-year period.

Anyone interested in registering for the course may do so by either calling 1-800-559-4880 or going online to SeniorsForSafeDriving.com

Questions about this or any state government issue should be directed to Rigby’s Cresson office at 814-886-1055, his Ferndale office at 814-536-9818, or his Somerset County office at 814-509-6942.
