Rigby to Offer Cyber Crime Awareness Class
January 22, 2026
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambia/Somerset) is partnering with members of the Saint Francis University faculty to conduct a Cyber Crime Awareness Class on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 1-3 p.m. at the Portage Volunteer Fire Company, 721 Main St., Portage.
Anyone planning to attend the seminar should register in advance by either calling Rigby’s office at 814-886-1055 or visiting his website, RepJimRigby.com, and clicking on the “Events” tab.
“An informed consumer is an empowered consumer, and the cyber criminals we’ll be discussing are hoping you fail to recognize the warning signs of a scam and fall prey to their attempts at disrupting your personal life,” said Rigby. “This class is free and designed to help you stay informed, stay alert and stay safe online.”
The seminar will be led by three members of the university’s faculty:
• Dr. Kevin Slonka, associate professor and cybersecurity director in the Computer Science Department. He has decades of industry experience and award-winning research in cyber security.
• Michael Zambotti, assistant professor in cybersecurity. His area of expertise is open-source intelligence, incident response and risk management.
• Dr. Mark Buckwalter, associate professor of criminal justice. He is a retired federal agent with 27 years of law enforcement experience in corrections, probation, parole and mental health services.
“Anyone who’s been through an experience like this knows how damaging getting scammed can be and how difficult it is to recover from,” Rigby added. “Our three speakers have a great deal of expertise in the area of cybercrime.”
