Rigby to Offer Cyber Crime Awareness Class
September 29, 2025
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambia/Somerset) is partnering with members of the Saint Francis University faculty to conduct a Cyber Crime Awareness Class on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 1-3 p.m. at the Cresson Fire Hall, 223 Ashcroft Ave., Cresson.
Anyone planning to attend the seminar should register in advance by either calling Rigby’s office at 814-886-1055 or visiting his website, RepJimRigby.com, and clicking on the “Events” tab.
“The objective of the class is to help residents of the 71st Legislative District stay informed, stay alert and stay safe online,” Rigby said. “The criminals we’re dealing with want nothing more than to disrupt their intended target’s life, ruin their reputation and profit at their expense. Anyone who’s been through an experience like this knows how damaging getting scammed can be and how difficult it is to recover from.”
“The class is free and open to anyone, as these thieves target all age groups,” added Rigby.
The seminar will be led by three members of the school’s faculty:
• Dr. Kevin Slonka, associate professor and cybersecurity director in the Computer Science Department. He has decades of industry experience and award-winning research in cyber security.
• Michael Zambotti, assistant professor in cybersecurity. His area of expertise is open-source intelligence, incident response and risk management.
• Dr. Mark Buckwalter, associate professor of criminal justice. He is a retired federal agent with 27 years of law enforcement experience in corrections, probation, parole and mental health services.
“These gentlemen have seen it all when it comes to cyber crime, and I appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge with us,” said Rigby.
