HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown) invites the Johnstown community to an official dedication of the SFC Raymond R. Buchan Memorial Bridge, which will be held this Saturday, July 2, beginning at 11 a.m.

“While the signage on the bridge has been in place for quite a while, family issues and the COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from being able to hold a dedication ceremony,” Rigby said. “We finally have an opportunity to gather family and friends in one place and officially recognize SFC Buchan.”

United States Army veteran Eric Hawes will be the guest speaker for Saturday’s program, which will be held on the Washington Street bridge. Anyone wishing to attend may park on either Washington Street or Johns Street.

In 2019, Rigby authored the original legislation, House Bill 1595, that designated the portion of Washington Street which crosses the Stonycreek River by Sargent's Stadium at the Point in honor of SFC Buchan. The Johnstown native served 16 years in the United States Army and died in July, 2007 during active duty in Ta’meem, west of Baghdad, Iraq.

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Rigby’s district office at 814-536-9818.
