HARRISBURG – The borough of Westmont will receive a $700,000 federal grant to create a safe bicycle and pedestrian connection, according to state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown).

“Stanford Avenue and Veta Lane is a common route used by school students attending Westmont Hilltop Junior and Senior High School,” Rigby said. “The award will make it safer for them to travel to and from school on foot or bicycle, and I congratulate Westmont Borough’s leadership for successfully applying for this competitive grant.”

The grant includes improvements to Stanford Avenue’s intersections with Menoher Boulevard and St. Clair Road. Proposed improvements include ADA-compliant sidewalk and curb ramps, signing, and pavement markings. The funding was made available through the Transportation Alternatives Program, which has a component that supports safe routes to school.

Questions about this or any state government issue should be directed to Rigby’s district office at 1-814-536-9818.
