Renaming of Bridge in Honor of Local War Hero to Become Official

WHAT: State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown) will unveil signs designating the Washington Street bridge over the Stonycreek River as the SFC Raymond R. Buchan Memorial Bridge. Buchan, a graduate of the Westmont Hilltop School District, served in the United States Army and was killed in 2007 while on his second tour of duty in Iraq.

The renaming is the result of Act 102 of 2019, which was authored by Rigby. An official ceremony recognizing the bridge renaming and the life of SFC Buchan will be held at a later date.

WHEN: This Thursday, July 2, 9 a.m.

WHERE: Washington Street bridge, adjacent to Point Park.
