HARRISBURG – As a former police chief and volunteer fireman, state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown) has a unique perspective.

“I’ve now seen the need to further support our emergency responders from both the side of what is needed and that of what is possible,” said Rigby. “The bottom line is we need to do much more than we are right now to help these talented men and women recruit and retain volunteers, as well as respect what they do for our communities.”

This Wednesday, March 11, Rigby will be hosting a Volunteer Fire Company/Ambulance Seminar from 6-8 p.m. at his 1340 Franklin St. district office in Johnstown.

State Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego, State EMS Director Dylan Ferguson and Executive Director of PA Fire and Emergency Services Jerry Ozog will be on hand to help fire companies and ambulance organizations better understand funding sources, as well as legislation and issues facing their organization. A question and answer session will follow the individual presentations.

Attendance is open to members of any volunteer emergency service organization in the 71st Legislative District; however, anyone planning to attend must register in advance. To register, please call the office at 814-536-9818 or email Mary Lauf, a member of Rigby’s district office staff, at mlauf@pahousegop.com.

The 71st Legislative District is made up of the City of Johnstown; the townships of Adams, Conemaugh, Richland, Stonycreek and West Taylor; the boroughs of Brownstown, Daisytown, Dale, East Conemaugh, Ehrenfeld, Ferndale, Franklin, Geistown, Lorain, Scalp Level, South Fork, Southmont, Summerhill and Westmont; and the borough of Paint in Somerset County.
