HARRISBURG – In most cases, a strong school district is at the center of a strong community, according to state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown), who’s supporting a $25,000 grant received by the Greater Johnstown School District.
“Having an effective school district is about more than just fielding winning athletic programs,” said Rigby. “It’s about educators who are invested in their students, and those same students learning by example in wanting to give back to their school and community. This grant will reinforce that idea.”
Rigby is referring to a Teacher in the Workplace grant awarded to the school district through the Department of Education. Greater Johnstown is one of 92 education agencies around the state to receive a grant.
“Curriculums need to be flexible and adjust to the times,” Rigby added. “The Teacher in the Workplace grant will enable educators to visit local employers and learn the skills and industry trends to enhance their classroom instruction, student learning, and career readiness.”
The grants are funded through federal money made available through Title II, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act.
Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Rigby’s district office by calling 814-536-9818.
