Rigby Collecting Worn American Flags at Johnstown, Sidman Offices
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) will be collecting torn and tattered American flags from now through July 26 at his Johnstown and Sidman district offices. The flags are being collected in preparation for an event planned by district office staff for the end of July.
Once the flags have been collected, Rigby’s office will put on an educational ceremony on how to properly destroy worn flags. Attendees will learn about the history and symbolism of the American flag as well as how to dispose of one correctly.
“I’m happy to give people a place to discard their worn flags, while at the same time being able to use them in an educational community event,” said Rigby. “According to the United States Flag Code, a tattered flag should be taken down and replaced. Many people don’t know how to properly dispose of them, and so they continue to let tattered flags fly. This collection effort gives them an opportunity to discard their flags in a dignified way.”
Flags can be dropped off at Rigby’s Johnstown office, located at
1340 Franklin St. in Johnstown, or at his Sidman office, located at
125 Mary Drive, Suite B in Sidman.
More details about July’s event will be released at a later date.
