Rigby Announces Transportation Upgrades for Two Cambria County Municipalities
4/21/2022
HARRISBURG – Summerhill Township and the Borough of Portage are both receiving infrastructure grants to make transportation improvements in their communities, according to state Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Johnstown).

“Leadership in both municipalities should be commended for applying for these grants, which are competitive in nature,” Rigby said. “Anyone who has ever applied for one of these knows how challenging the grant-writing process is, and I’m happy to see that both of them are being rewarded for their hard work.”

Portage is receiving a $443,000 grant for installation of new sidewalk, curb, and ADA ramps as part of its multi-phase streetscape program to establish pedestrian connectivity and improve pedestrian safety. Summerhill Township’s grant of more than $241,000 will be used to relocate a portion of Shaft Road from Donald Street to the bottom of Wilmore Heights Road so it connects from Donald Street to the top of Wilmore Heights Road. The project includes installation of cross drains, guiderail, and signage.

The Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund is the funding source for the grants, which may be used for the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities for bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
